Selecting A Holiday Caterer

By Chef Jeff Grundy

Serving food at social events has become a practice that is so common place many take it for granted. Few can imagine attending a wedding, birthday party, or other celebration that did not include food being served.

In fact, many people attend these events primarily for the free food that they expect to be served. While enjoying food is a fun part of any social event preparing the food can be a stressful, time consuming process. In order to save time and effort consider hiring a caterer for your next event.

Professional catering companies take the burden off preparing food off of the event hosts. This will give them more time to focus on other aspects of their gathering. Caterers are especially useful when planning a wedding or important corporate event.

When choosing a cater be careful to compare similar options. There are three towns surrounding where I live. Cartersville, Rome and Kennesaw yet each will have a different pricing structure and offerings.

When hiring for a corporate event, be sure and check experience and references. If your goal is to impress your clients, don't take a chance on an unknown caterer.

When the time comes to choose your caterer it is important that you keep your location in mind. Try to choose a caterer that is close to you or the location of the event. This will help avoid last minute timing issues that could affect the caterer or the client.

Chance are you have several professional experienced caterers you can choose from in your area. Even in rural areas their is usually good competition.

Be sure and discuss pricing before the event. Make sure you are award of any and all additional cost that may be added on. Such as tip, delivery fee, maintaining the party. Nothing is worse than expecting to pay one amount and being charged another.

Be extra careful when comparing bids between caterers to make sure they are bidding on the same thing. Don't assume they are all including china in the price unless it is clearly written out. We recently did a catering and were expected to have linen for the guests tables although it was never mentioned. The clearer you are the less problems will arise.

Some pricing may shock you at first, but when you look at all the benefits associated with having someone else do all the cooking, planning, shopping and cleaning it is well worth the added expense. - 30289
