Add Some Pumpkin Soup Varieties to Your Life

By Ken Kudra

There are many different ways to make pumpkin soup. While you may not be able to think of many variations off the top of your head, there are many different recipes for this soup beyond the creamy classic version. One such easy version involves pouring honey over the pumpkin, garlic, and onions before roasting them. The roasted vegetables are then made into a delicious soup.

Pumpkin and cheese makes another easy combination. Simply use canned pumpkin puree in this simple soup. Combine the ingredients of cream, spices, broth, grated cheddar cheese, and some brown sugar to create a lovely dish. Serve with hot fresh bread or melt additional cheese on top of the bowl, like French onion soup.

Another twist on classic pumpkin soup adds real maple syrup to the soup as well as some Marsala wine. The rich flavors blend together, creating an incredible meal. Be sure and use real maple syrup... the imitation syrups just will not have the same effect on the soup.

You can also influence your pumpkin soup by changing cuisines. There are pumpkin soups in Thai, Haitian, Mexican and Jamaican cuisines. The common spices of each cuisine make the difference, creating new flavor variations with the pumpkin.

If you want a more exotic flavor to your soup, try pumpkin curry soup. This soup uses a light, aromatic curry that adds a little spice. Stronger curries are not recommended due to the possibility of overwhelming the pumpkin flavor. This soup can be made easily with canned pumpkin at any time of year. It also makes a wonderful appetizer to serve with any meal.

Try adding some specialty ingredients to change your soup. Shrimp adds a nice seafood flavor to the soup, while chocolate can create an unusual dessert soup. Make your soup spicy or mild. Peppers will add some kick to your soup if you like it hot. Use chipotle if you want a milder heat. Peanut butter can be combined with pumpkin soup to make an unusual flavor. Add bacon or sausage to bring it all together. This fast recipe can be done at the last minute.

Ingredients you traditionally associate with fall like apples are often added to pumpkin soup. You can use other winter squashes like butternut or acorn in your soup. Even sweet potatoes will add a new twist, adding their own sweetness and texture. Do not be afraid to use herbs to create different flavor blends in your soup. In the hot days of summer, try a chilled pumpkin soup that will help your guests cool down admirably.

No matter what changes you make to your pumpkin soup, you will be eating a delicious, rich soup that will fill you up. The velvety texture feels good in the mouth and the cream gives you a satisfying taste. Even if you do not have a lot of time you can make pumpkin soup. Simply make it in the crockpot and let it cook while you are busy. - 30289
